Question for David -- Chaos?

In reading a message board regarding Last House rip-off CHAOS, someone asked why the film, which was scheduled to be screened at a convention, along with the director and Sage Stallone holding a q&a -- had been canceled. Someone replied and said this:

::::Well, anyone who spoke to Sage Stallone at the Flashback Weekend should have a pretty good idea of why. Stallone will have nothing to do with the evil producers who fired his friend David (Krug) Hess. He was the only reason Sage was involved with the film in the first place. These people fired Hess a week into filming and Sage wanted to quit but was contractually obligated to complete the film. He just used Flashback Weekend to promote Grindhouse Releasing's Oct. release of Cannibal Holocaust during the Q+A with Bruce Campbell then split from the publicity tour. And let me just add, Chaos is a last house rip-off and it stinks ADMIT IT!::::

Is this true? I thought I had heard you were involved with this project a longggg time ago, and I thought you recently dismissed it as trash! [img]smile.gif[/img] Reading this made me curious though...

Also, I caught ZODIAC KILLER -- you were wonderful, I just wish you were in the movie more! The director made BRAINWAVES -- one of my favorite movies as a kid -- I would watch it everytime it came on -- and I see he re-used the bathtub electrocution scene! I'll have to seek that out on DVD now...

Hey Shannon,
Okay! My friend Mark Sheffler was hired to write/co-direct the film early on because the would-be director didn't know his right from his left...haha! So Mark Directed and David DeFalco took credit. As far as I was concerned, the producer, a total asshole, I may add, decided that he didn't want me playing the Sheriff because I'd detract from the rest of the film...I have no idea why? When I went down to see the producer he behaved like the star he wasn't and I wouldn't take any shit from him. He wanted this that and the other thing, tried to make me jump through hoops and was a general pain in the ass. I was doing the film only because my friend Mark Sheffler was involved. DeFalco had approached me at a convention and just about offered me anything to be in the film. When I said I'd consider based on the script, he used my name to raise the money and ripped off most of Wes's script. After I read the final version of the script which was uniformly bad, although Mark tried to save it as best he could, I was luke warm about doing the film. They had no money, they tried to get me for scale and the production office, when I arrived in L.A. was in shambles. I met, went home, they agreed to contact my agent and make a proper offer and 'zip'. I had a SAG low budget agreement that I signed on contigency and they honored it by buying it out. As far as being 'fired', it was the luckiest thing that ever happened. The film is a piece of trash and they can't get it distributed it's so bad. That's the short story, if you want more, when I get the time, I'll blog it.

I'm glad you weren't involved in that mess David. Have you seen the reviews it's been getting? I don't know when I've seen a film so universally torn apart. Poor Mark and Sage. [img]redface.gif[/img]

Thanks so much for replying. Where is this blog? Have you started it yet? I think it's a great idea. Did you read the letter David DeFalco and the producer sent to Ebert (and more importantly, Ebert's response) regarding his negative CHAOS review?

P.S. -- How I wish you would have at least had a small role in Devil's Rejects [img]frown.gif[/img] I LOVED the movie and couldn't imagine it being any better than it was -- but having a Hess cameo would have made me very happy!

I'm personally a little surprised that Ebert took the bait so easily and gave them the free publicity they were looking for. Not to mention the "open letter defending the film" gag is yet another idea they took from Last House.

I need to correct some major errors in my blog about 'Chaos' and apologize to David DeFalco for representing him in a very bad light. Firstly, he really had nothing to do with the fiasco that ensued while I was part of 'Chaos'. It was strictly Bernheim's doing and he's the real asshole. David was trying to get a picture made and felt horrible that he had to let me go. Since that time he's tried to find ways to make it up to me and when the opportunity came about with his new wrestling movie starring Rob Van Dam - in pre-production, because Marc Sheffler is co-writing and directing, he thought it to be the perfect vehicle to get me re-involved and for this I commend him. My take on 'Chaos' as being a piece of shit was strictly hearsay, so I'll recant my review until I've seen it. As for Marc doing most of the directing, I know he helped, but it's DeFalco's film. The rest of the blog is my own perception of what was happening/happened at the time and I'll stick to it. I do feel lucky in the end not to have been involved, but I still have to apologize for lumping DeFalco in the same breath as Bernheim. David may be a little bit of a child at times, but he's got a good heart and I don't think he ever meant me any harm. Bernhiem, on the other hand, is just plain evil. So, Shannon, if you want to know about the apartments at the Executive Suites in Burbank, I can describe them down to the spots on the wall paper, but I have no more to say about 'Chaos'. It's in the past. I'm on to new projects and one bad experience doesn't mean a 'hill of beans' in lifes over all picture. See you in Chicago, maybe! I haven't checked out the site in awhile and am glad to be back. I just saw that you are coming close to my town Chicago for the Flashback Weekend and can't wait to see you and hear some music! My 2 cents on Chaos and just to make it quick was the special FX were very good and aside from that, the film was atrocious and literally took lines from Last House on the Left and used them in their movie. I have seen worse but I still didn't like the film. I saw Zodiac and was upset that you never screamed, killed, or had your way with any women. I need my Hess evil!
